Intel stopped out: the stop did what it was there for

This closes my first AI-assisted trade. I bought 13 Intel shares on 21 October. Two days later the stop sold them.

What triggered the sell

My GTC stop at USD 87. Intel traded down to it mid-morning in New York and the order filled at USD 87.05. I didn’t touch it. I found out from the IBKR notification.

IBKR Orders & Trades screen for 22 Oct 2026 showing one trade: INTC, sold 13 by an 87.05 stop order, GTC, filled at 87.05 US dollars for 1,131.59 US dollars with 1.12 US dollars commission, at 22:47:03, with a realised loss of 73.03 US dollars, shown as 93.29 Singapore dollars.
IBKR Trades screen, 22 Oct 2026: 13 INTC sold at USD 87.05 by the GTC stop.

Did I follow the plan

Yes. The plan said: stop at 87, no averaging down, no “wait and see”. It expected a loss of about USD 72 if things went wrong. It cost USD 73.03.

One gap. The entry post says “close below USD 87”. The order I placed sells the moment the price touches 87, during the day. That’s stricter than what I wrote. I’m keeping it, but I should have written it the way the order works.

What Claude got right, and wrong

The ticker, the size, the price, the stop and the target were Claude’s. The decision was mine.

  • Wrong: the read. Claude called a reversal after a 25% fall. My own entry rule hadn’t fired, and the trend was still down. It stayed down.
  • Wrong: the JPMorgan “upgrade” carried a USD 85 target, below my entry. That was in the evidence at the time.
  • Right: the size and the stop. Half size, stop set before the result. The loss was small and known in advance.

At 23:28 on 20 October my instinct said no. At 01:01 I bought anyway. Now? Good learning. Let’s see, and improve ourselves.

What I’d change

  • Wait for the trigger day. Both trades so far broke my entry rule.
  • Write the stop rule the way the order works.
  • Keep the stop on the buy ticket. I did that on GM.
  • Check risk to reward, and whether the stop sits too close to be hit by normal noise. Not on one trade. After about ten trades, I’ll look at all of them together and decide.
