About Thawaio
Thawaio is a personal journal about travel, food, money, technology and the thoughts that do not fit neatly into any of those subjects.
I have written online, on and off, for many years. Some of the posts here first appeared on older blogs, including finance writing from 2021. I no longer maintain those sites, so Thawaio has become a new home for that writing alongside the things I am recording now.
More recently, a break from work gave me time to travel, return to older writing and start building things of my own. It also made me pay closer attention to experiences I normally moved through too quickly.
This is where I keep a record of those experiences. Some posts are about family trips and places I want to remember. Others are about financial decisions, including the mistakes. There will also be notes about food, technology and the work of keeping years of photographs and writing organised.
The name
Thawaio comes from thawai, a Meitei word associated with the soul, life or spirit. The ending turns it into a form of address, something close to “O my soul” or “my life.”
I use it here as a reminder to pay attention to my own life while I am living it.
A personal record
This is not a guide written by an expert. It is a personal record, written from what I experienced and understood at the time. Views may change, memories may be incomplete and older posts may be updated when something needs clarification.
Most of the photographs on Thawaio are my own. I sometimes write about travelling with family and friends, but I keep names and personal details private unless there is a reason to include them.
