Privacy Policy
Thawaio is a personal blog. It collects very little about its readers, and this notice explains what does happen to your information when you visit.
Last updated: 21 October 2026
About this notice
Thawaio is a personal blog about travel, food, finance, technology, digital life and personal musings. It is written and run by one person based in Singapore, referred to here as “I” or “the author”.
This is a privacy notice. It describes how information is handled when you use the site; it is not a contract, and you do not need to agree to anything to read Thawaio.
What Thawaio does not collect
Thawaio does not currently:
- offer a newsletter or collect email subscriptions;
- have visitor accounts or ask you to register;
- use Google Analytics or any other analytics service;
- show advertising, including Google AdSense, or build advertising profiles;
- take part in affiliate programmes.
If any of this changes, this notice will be updated before the change takes effect.
Hosting and delivery
When Thawaio is online, its pages are served by Cloudflare through Cloudflare Workers. As with any website, your browser’s requests reach Cloudflare’s servers, and Cloudflare may process technical information such as your IP address, browser and device details, the pages requested and the time of the request. Cloudflare uses this to deliver the site, keep it reliable and protect it against abuse and attacks.
Cloudflare handles this information under its own policy: Cloudflare privacy policy (external site).
Comments (Disqus)
Comments are provided by Disqus, and they are optional. Articles do not contact Disqus when they load. Disqus is contacted only after you select Show comments on an article. You can read every article without doing so.
Once you select Show comments, Disqus loads in your browser and may process information such as your IP address, browser and device information, cookies, your Disqus account details if you sign in, and anything you post. Disqus handles this under its own policy: Disqus privacy policy (external site).
Cookies
Thawaio does not set its own cookies for tracking, analytics or advertising, and there are no analytics, advertising or newsletter cookies on the site.
Cloudflare may use strictly necessary cookies or similar technical measures to deliver the site securely, for example to tell legitimate visitors from automated attacks. Disqus may set cookies, but only after you select Show comments.
Search
Search runs in your browser against a list of articles that is part of the site itself. What you type is not sent to a search service.
If you email me
If you write to hello@thawaio.com, I will use your email address and message to reply and to deal with what you asked about. Your email is also processed by the email service that receives it.
Sharing and selling
I do not sell or rent personal information. Information is shared only as this notice describes (with Cloudflare for hosting, and with Disqus if you choose to load comments) or where the law requires it.
Processing outside Singapore
Cloudflare and Disqus operate internationally, so information they process may be handled outside Singapore, on their own infrastructure and under their own policies and safeguards.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, and it collects as little as possible in the first place. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, though, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
How long information is kept
Thawaio does not keep analytics or visitor records of its own. Emails are kept for as long as they are needed to deal with your message and to keep a reasonable record of it. Cloudflare and Disqus keep information for the periods set out in their own policies.
Links to other sites
Articles link to other websites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and this notice does not cover them.
Children
Thawaio is not aimed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. Disqus sets its own age requirements for commenting. If you believe a child has sent me personal information, please get in touch so I can review it and, where appropriate, delete it.
Your rights
Thawaio is run from Singapore, so the main law that applies is Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act 2012. Subject to the procedures and exceptions in the Act, you may ask for access to personal data I hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or withdraw consent you previously gave. Withdrawal may require reasonable notice and does not affect processing otherwise permitted or required by law.
Depending on where you live, other laws may give you further rights. I will respond to requests as the law that applies to them requires. For information held by Cloudflare or Disqus, you can also contact them directly.
Changes to this notice
If how Thawaio handles information changes, this notice will be updated and the date at the top will change.
