A quick Phuket getaway with friends (2019)

A few days with a friend's family in August 2019, much of it at the resort pool, and an evening by the bridges at the north end of the island.

A long road bridge and an older white bridge with an ornate pavilion crossing grey-green water, seen from a beach with a wind-blown coconut palm at the left, under heavy cloud.

In August 2019, we had a quick getaway to Phuket with a friend’s family. Our friends had an offer that involved attending a seminar and came with a dual-key hotel room, and we joined them for the trip.

We flew from Singapore to Phuket on Thai AirAsia on 8 August, and stayed at Marriott’s Phuket Beach Club. My photographs from the trip start the next morning, in the resort garden.

A resort garden with a bed of red-flowered plants, a curving path, boulders and palm trees, a two-storey building with dark red roofs and wooden balconies at the right, and the sea visible beyond a lawn.

The sky is overcast in most of my photographs.

We spent a lot of our time at the hotel’s swimming pool and enjoying its facilities. For a short getaway like this one, that was an important part of the trip.

An evening by the bridges

On 10 August, we spent the late afternoon and evening at a restaurant by the water near the Sarasin Bridge, at the north end of Phuket, where the island is joined to the mainland.

The entrance to a restaurant under tall wind-blown trees, with covered walkways, potted plants, a sign in Thai at the left and the sea glimpsed beyond.

Home on 11 August

It was raining on our last morning. Later that morning, we were at Phuket International Airport for our flight home to Singapore on Thai AirAsia.

Raindrops on a dark balcony rail, overlooking frangipani trees, palms and a resort pool with loungers and folded umbrellas.
